Earlier this week, Symbian announced that it will embrace the open-source PhoneGap tool in the new Symbian^3 version of the mobile operating system.  This will mean that developers can code on Symbian^3 utilizing standard tools such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This will make Symbian a more friendly choice to mobile web developers who are looking to make the leap to writing mobile apps.  Now, they’ll have the luxury of utilizing native functions such as geolocation, accelerometer data, camera, contacts, and network availability, all in an application framework that web developers are familiar with.

The ghost of DoT (Department of Telecommunication, India) has again come back in the lives of RIM, Skype and Google. The Indian governement has asked these companies that they should share the email data with the Indian telecom and information authorities. If any of these companies fail to produce the data which is not complaint to the department’s standards, Indian government might block or ban these companies to operate in India. As of now there is no official statement from any of these three companies but given the sheer size of the population, who use these services in India, I am sure the companies and the government would figure out a way around this issue.
