RIP the floppy disk: Sony finally kills legendary format
I remember when I was able to store just about every document that I ever wanted on a single 1.44MB floppy disk. That was a very long time ago and I don’t know anyone who still uses the format. Well, Sony seems to think so too, because it just killed the floppy disk. Other manufacturers have long since abandoned the file saving format, but Sony stuck around and kept making new disks… until now

Apple iPod touch 4G with 2-megapixel camera “leaked”
Apple iPod with integrated 2.0 megapixel camera For the longest time, there were only a handful of things that separated the iPod touch from the Apple iPhone. The cellular connectivity is an obvious one, but it seems that one of the other differentiating factors is also going to be removed. According to the most recent leaks spewing from Apple and out of Vietnam , the upcoming fourth-generation iPod touch will boast a two-megapixel digital camera. Up until now, the iPod touch has been lacking in the photography department, so this is probably a good change for the better

#Lift10: Jamais Cascio – Wired for Anticipation
One of the most compelling chapters [in my opinion] of Smart Mobs: The Next Social Revolution focuses on How to Recognize The Future When It Lands On You . Long time friend of SmartMobs Jamais Cascio , who spends much time pondering upon the future, had delivered an incredibly inspiring talk at the Lift Conference last week

Nokia release first batch of N8 photo samples!
Nokia were quite late to join the 8.0 Megapixel party with the Nokia N86 8MP and whilst the Symbian slider was one of the best camera phones we’d seen, other manufacturers were already breaking new ground in image resolution and video capture. Now, once again Nokia are set to launch their first entrant in the 12 Megapixel space whilst two of their key rivals, Samsung and Sony Ericsson , have both had 12 Megapixel camera phones on the market for over 6 months. Of course, the N8 has some key advantages over its rivals (HD Video/ HDMI output/ all new Symbian OS) but how does the still camera measure up?

Smart mobbing data grows and pervades
The New York Times has a round-up article about cellphone use today titled: Cellphones Now Used More for Data Than for Calls . It includes some details around several areas of this basic expansion of smart mobby behavior: For many Americans, cellphones have become irreplaceable tools to manage their lives and stay connected to the outside world, their families and networks of friends online. But increasingly, by several measures, that does not mean talking on them very much

Obama: iPod And XBox ‘Distraction’ Hard On Democracy
President Obama delivered the commencement address at Hampton University in Virginia Full text of the speech of President Obama. Notice the smartmobby remarks the President made, bemoaning the fact that “some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction,” in the clamor of certain blogs and talk radio outlets: And meanwhile, you’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank that high on the truth meter
