Telus and Rogers announce BlackBerry Pearl 3G availability

Following the recent official announcement of the BlackBerry Pearl 3G Canadian carriers Telus and Rogers have announced that they will be carrying the Pearl 3G in the coming months.  The Telus announcement reads: Starting in May, this smartphone will be available from TELUS in pink and in black for as little as $29.99 on a three-year plan. BlackBerry 6 previewed on video!

Yesterday, we covered the news that RIM would be launching the latest version of BlackBerry OS, going under the name of BlackBerry . Today, we can do one better as RIM (the people behind BlackBerry devices and the operating system) have released a trailer of sorts giving us a tantalising sneak peek at the revamped OS. Concrete details have yet to be announced so we’re still in the dark as to what innovations BlackBerry 6 will bring to the table but the video does hint at a new and improved web browser, music player and messaging interface

BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Pearl 3G

RIM has released two new BlackBerry models, the BlackBerry Bold 9650 (pictured) and the BlackBerry Pearl 3G. The Bold 9650 is reminiscent of the Bold 9700, with a 3.2MP cam, GPS and an optical trackpad. While the Blackberry Pearl 3G sports the same optical trackpad and a SureType keyboard, and we’re promised it’ll also come sporting a 3.2MP camera, GPS and WiFi

Smartphones are a major trend in the mobile industry and will be a focus at CTIA 2010 in Las Vegas . Informa forecasts smartphones will account for 55% of the value of the global handset market in 2010, and 64% of total mobile handsets profits, despite accounting for only 27% of handset sales Smartphone operating systems, key to the success of new entrants in the space, will dominate the CTIA debate over data-centric devices, user interface and user experience Questions surrounding open versus closed OS will be key to smartphone strategy: can a rigidly controlled OS like Apple’s be replicated? Are open source OSs such as the increasingly popular Android platform too complex for integration with device hardware?
