FTC Looking Into Apple’s iAd Service?

The Wall Street Journal, while covering the possible antitrust inquiry Apple is facing, has reported that the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has also been looking into Apple’s iAd mobile advertising service. The reason for the investigation comes from another change (besides publicized ban of cross-platform-compilers) in the developer agreement that effectively hinders other ad agencies from gathering the information needed to run an ad platform

T-Mobile drops some overage charges in favor of bandwidth throttling

If you are a current subscriber to T-Mobile’s 5GB webConnect data plan the recent announcement made by the wireless network may be some good news or bad news depending on how you look at it.  T-Mobile recently announced that the carrier will no longer be charging its $.20 per megabyte overage fee for any data used beyond the 5GB limit.  Instead of these overage fees the wireless network will be implementing bandwidth throttling on any data used on top of the standard 5GB.  While T-Mobile did not say exactly how much they will slow things down this latest announcement effectively makes the 5GB webConnect data plan an unlimited plan.  This new data structure will also affect those customers who are on the 200MB monthly plan for their iPhone or other devices.  While these customers will not see any bandwidth throttling they will see their overage charges cut in half from $.20 to $.10 per megabyte.  Both changes are effective immediately.

Entry Level Touch Phone Is An Impressive Dark Horse

According to the The Mobile Weblog , the Nuron from Nokia for T-Mobile USA is selling quite well.  The Nokia Nuron (also known as the 5230 everywhere else in the world) is available for sale in T-Mobile stores for as little as $70 (or free on contract).  The phone has a pretty decent feature set including: 3.2″ touchscreen with tactile feedback Accelerometer 16.7 million color display 2.0 megapixel camera GPS Ovi Maps According to the article linked above and my own asking at my local T-Mobile store, the Nokia entry level touch screen is generating some good buzz with users reporting a positive user experience. Nuron users seems to love surfing the web via the web browser on T-Mobile’s 3G network and having full GPS navigation capability using Ovi Maps. Even though the Nuron doesn’t have the specs of the iPhone with it’s extensive apps selection and easy as pie user experience, but the device does have a feature set that appeals to a mass audience.

Apple Possibly Facing Antitrust Suit in Wake of Flash-to-iPhone Compiler Ban?

The New York Post and Reuters is reporting that Apple may face federal antitrust inquires regarding a change the company made in their iPhone developer agreement last month that hampers developers from using so-called cross-compilers to build their iPhone software. This move prevents developers from utilizing Adobe’s new Packager for iPhone found in Flash CS5. In layman’s terms, Flash apps can no longer be ported to the iPhone, but instead must be written in Objective-C or other Apple approved languages
