Operators To Fork Out 3G License Fees Before Spectrum Allocation: DoT

It looks like the picture of 2008 mayhem is still afresh in the minds of bureaucratic leaders. Department of Telecom (DoT) has hinted that telco’s winning 3G licenses will need to submit license fees well within stipulated time of 20 days.

Mobile number portability and TRAI: Suckers

As per the media reports, the mobile number portability is delayed because BSNL and MTNL were not ready for it. In any case, I am toying with the idea of filing a second RTI application but my attention is fixated on academics and it would be impossible to keep a track of the same. After receiving no reply from the morons, I have filed a second appeal with CIC, New Delhi. The best part is that it’s free, it’s as easy as it can get by typing in the required information in the drop down boxes and all you have to upload is the copy of the letters sent to the earlier PIO

Burrp Was Sold For 4.25 Cr – Expensive Or Cheap?

We had questioned at the time of the sale of Burrp to Infomedia18 on whether this deal was a strategic sale or a distress one! Well now the cat or the amount in this case is out of the bag . Burrp was sold for 4.25 crores as per the SEBI filing by Infomedia18.

India now has 500 million mobile phone connections

Brace yourself people. By the start of 2010, India would have around 500 Million (50 Crore) Mobile Phone connections, second only to China in total numbers. Overall Telephone connections in India is currently pegged at around 550 Million connections , but considering that fact that many people have dual connections in their name and not all of them are in use at the same time, the number of Mobile connections India has, has been pegged at around 488.40 million mobile connections at the end of October 2009 and hence will be breaching the half billion mark quite soon

Linkedin announced its first office in APAC region in Mumbai yesterday on its blog . It also announced a partnership with the Network18 group. IDEA Overtakes BSNL While Bharti Airtel Grows By 2.5% In Nov: GSM Growth

GSM subscriber growth numbers for November have been released by COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) and according to these numbers IDEA Cellular has apparently overtaken BSNL in total subscriber base. IDEA has reached 55.90 million GSM subscribers and has overtaken BSNL which has 55.18 million subscribers. This puts IDEA at no.3 position after Bharti Airtel and Reliance in terms of market share

Online News Consumption Grows By 37% In India: Comscore Study

A recent Comscore study has found that the traffic to online news sites reached a record 15.8 million which is an increase of over 37% from last year and it also represents almost 44% of the total online population of India.
